STarting Your Book
It's not easy to decide to write a book.
I've been talking to some potential authors for 18 months and longer. I check in a few times a year to see where their plans are at and to chat about any obstacles that have come up (and obstacles always come up).
I'm happy to keep talking because I believe they should write a book. And that most of them eventually will. And because I understand that starting the process is not easy.
I've noticed over the last couple of years that it's taking authors longer and longer to pull the trigger.
Maybe they don't have the time right now.
Maybe they don't have the funds.
Maybe they don't have the bandwidth.
Maybe they don't have a clear enough vision of their purpose.
Most of all, there are always other fires to fight.
But most authors are not waiting for the perfect time to start, because they know that never comes. They are figuring out how to create the conditions to give themselves the best chance to write a great book.
Some fall by the wayside, but most are so committed to their book that they won't let the dream die. They want to help others or benefit themselves, or both.
Creating something with lasting value takes a lot of patience. There's no point in jumping the gun.
