Credit Where It’s Due

No kidding. It was the first clue I got.

13dn "I get no credit for published work"

I was starting the Times crossword when one clue jumped out because it connected directly with what I do.

Only another 30 or so answers to go.

The puzzle is actually out of date. These days, ghosts often get credit for their work, either in the acknowledgments or even on the cover. It's not compulsory for authors to credit their writing collaborator, but the fact that it happens at all is a sign of how publishing has changed.

More and more authors see no reason to hide the fact that they worked with a collaborator. They realize that what makes them an author is creating the content; it doesn't matter if they don't write it down themselves.

Now back to the dumb crossword.
