Struck By War
It's one of the most frustrating things that can happen to an author.
Or a ghostwriter.
One of my favorite projects has just been put on hold for an unforeseen reason: the war in Iran.
(It's unusual but not unique. I remember when the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s disrupted the UK publishing industry because so many books were printed in the Balkans, and the printing houses had all the film used to make illustrated books.)
This time, my authors are based in Dubai. They have decided that it's not appropriate timing to launch their book, which is already at the publishers.
It's a sensible decision, particularly as one is involved in a business that will be badly affected by the conflict.
But it's also a pity because it's a great book that I can't wait to be able to use as a calling card.
We came up with an unusual parable-based structure that interweaves three narratives to allow both the authors' viewpoints to be expressed, while also reflecting their unique geographical and cultural backgrounds.
Whenever the book comes out, it's going to be a hell of a read. For now, though, other considerations take priority.
The book can wait.
